Massage Services
A seasoned therapist of any kind has a full repertoire of techniques and methods designed to accomplish a favorable outcome. She doesn’t use all of them all of the time.
It’s like preparing to make a special meal. When grocery shopping, you pick from the shelf only those ingredients needed for each recipe you’ve chosen, then use the right methods to combine them and produce a tasty, nutritious meal.
As a master chef draws on all his knowledge and expertise to create a meal to satisfy your culinary needs, the skilled massage therapist serves you best when not bound to a particular technique or approach.
I know it’s common practice for massage establishments to present a menu of services for the client to choose.
My way is different.
That said, below you’ll find brief descriptions of some of the techniques I use that can be woven through our sessions together. Before each session, we will always spend time updating and assessing what is right for you for that day, depending on your progress, needs and goals.
Regardless the technique, all approaches are aimed toward the same end: your well-being.

Transcending Warm Stone Massage
Through the ages, all cultures have utilized the stones, clay, crystals and plants around them to help them heal and thrive. Spiritual rituals often include the heating of stones, as in the American Indian Sweat Lodges.
Massage with my carefully hand-gathered collection will gently balance, soothe and strengthen your sense of wholeness and connection.
My stones are mostly basalt, from deep in the earth’s core. Transcending Warm Stone Massage is a slow, deeply relaxing treatment that clients report affects them more profoundly than massage by hand alone.
This short video explains how and why massage with stones works.
Techniques
Cranio-Sacral Therapy
This is a gentle, light-touch method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of the nervous system. It addresses the bones, membranes and fluid of this system to improve nerve communication throughout the body.
The result helps relieve assorted pains, imbalances, restrictions and malfunctions – allowing you to feel more free, energized and mobile.
Cranio-Sacral Therapy has proven helpful after concussion or car accidents, with TMJ problems, migraines, trigeminal neuralgia, and other imbalances.
Orthopedic Massage
Orthopedic massage is named for the tissues of the body it addresses.
Essentially, this type of massage is done mostly without a lotion or oil and is geared toward improving the range of motion and ease of joints, their surrounding muscle and connective tissue (ligaments, tendons, fascia.)
Reiki / Energy Healing
The purpose is to balance the flow of energy ( Chi ), fluids, and pressures of the whole system to assist the body in any healing that’s needed.
Often, energy work is a good first step in situations too painful for physical touch. It reduces the pain enough to begin using massage methods.
My energy sessions may be of Reiki alone or a blend of several methods including Polarity, essential oils, semi-precious stones, and crystals.
This subtle and gentle work can also be a powerful adjunct to psychotherapy and counseling by supporting and increasing body awareness within the process of discovery, growth, and healing.
Foot Reflexology
Reflexology involves manual pressure on specific points of the feet linked to, and influencing, every other part of the body.
This linking is not via anatomical pathways but rather, it can be likened to Chinese acupressure and acupuncture which aid healing and balancing of the body through a network of energy channels called meridians.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release uses gentle, sustained pressure on tight, unmoving connective tissue.
This slow, non-forceful method allows the body to release constricted areas, increasing the flow of blood and lymph and calming hyperactive nerves.
With the limitation reduced or erased, you can move without pain and with more energy.
Swedish Massage
This system is the foundation of all western styles of massage. It is not simply long, gliding strokes for relaxation only. Such movements are just one element of true Swedish massage.
There are 5 modes defined in the Swedish Massage System developed by the Swede, Pehr Henrik Ling (1776 to 1839):
- Stroking <> Kneading <> Friction <> Vibration <> Percussion
Within each mode are variations limited only by the practitioner’s training, experience and artistry.
